I'd be interested to hear if anyone else has run up against a
locally stated requirement to attend this new safeguarding
training - when the information from HQ seems to imply that
this doesn't apply in certain specific cases.

It is good management to have reviews and the policy is that all adults should have regular reviews, I review the GSL's in my District. I am expecting my review soon, I have mentioned hat it is due, it was actually due Nov. 2004 so I wouldn't get too excited Chris you may have a while to wait before it happens.

Mind you as has been noted the review form has a date of completion for Safeguarding training and it also has date of expiry of First Aid certificate. Like you my role involves dealing with adults, I am a line manager, TA, Exec etc. and don't have contact with the yp. The form is designed for the majority who are Leaders of yp, I haven't got either of the above and I haven't had them for years so perhaps that is why the review hasn't been done. I will still do the course though as I feel that knowing about it is important for me as a line manager although if I don't already know it by now I am not sure how I got through the last 40+ years.

So, you may need to ask the Info Centre to ask the Head of
Safeguarding for clarification.

The Head of Safeguarding is the ultimate source for advice on Safeguarding matters rather than on POR. We shouldn't ever need to ask for clarification of the rules in POR as they should be clear. I they are not someone will interpret them and then they may not be consistently applied which is exactly what seems to be happening in this case.

As to the appointment process books they have to purchased I believe so unless the District has supplied it he won't be able to look that up.

What do you lose by completing the Training? A few hours? What do
you gain by completing the training?

I agree, I will do it (again) as it is worth keeping to date but for someone who is on the District or Group Exec and doesn't have anything to do with yp it is less important especially if they have as many years experience as Chris. Still I am sure if he attends he will no doubt ask some awkward questions just to make his presence felt..
