Fools Tour 2010

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We've just come back from an absolutely fantastic week in Belgium with
Scouts and Explorers.

Within an hour of getting home there were almost 1,000 images on facebook
and I had to get heavy with them about tagging images.

Anyway, the official version of the trip is available at:-

www.huddersfieldsoutheast.org.ukif anyone is interested.

And yes, the maps have been out already for 2011...

An excellent read and good to see all you chips and spuds had a great
time. Sort of thing I'd love to do with mine. I think these days some
kids get spoiled by being able to go far. For many kids you haven't
travelled if you haven't been to the US or the Canaries, the Med,
Turkey, Hong Kong, Far East.

My first school trip overseas was when I was 8, Bredene in Belgium.
Did Wipers and Bruge on that trip. Still remember it well today.

So, as you intimate at the end of your report, where are you off to
next?

Same sort of area, same sort of theme? Maybe Normandy? Lots of places
there to see: D-Day beaches, Arromanches, etc. Picturesque:
Countryside, beaches Mont St Michel. Invaders of Britain (Normans):
Caen, Bayeux. Invaders of France (us): Rouen (Joan of Arc). Etc.

Maybe get even more serious and go and see someone who was the scouts
sort of age? How about Amsterdam? Anne Frank. Lots of sights to see -
no not those ones! :-) Not many mountains. No need for T permits! More
practice with the cycling!

What about Berlin? East v West. Checkpoint Charlie. All the usual
sights of a major capital. Field of Stelae (weird and yet v. sad).
Brandenburg. Tiergarten. Reichstag. Charlottenburg. Etc.

Or maybe go to the 'home' of the builders of Eboracum, Legioliun,
Olicana? Loads to see and do in Rome.

Or is it Scarborough or Bridlington? :-)
