So all straightforward, until you have to cope with 6 sets of section
accounts and the Group accounts completed to varying degrees of rigour
Ahah.. as I understand it you should only have one account, section
accounts should have gone out many years ago.
- Persuading leaders to change - as difficult in this as in most other
things;
- the extra work it would give the treasurer on a regular basis.
It isn't difficult to get leaders to change. They are told by the GSL that
they need to hand all the books over and get the accounts closed. This is
often best done when the Leadership changes and they are needing to change
signatures.
No extra work for treasurer as if they are going to have to trawl through
the books anyway they are just changing their practice (should never be done
just once a year).
In our Group we collect subs in monthly (not got round to treasurer
collecting them direct yet) it is paid though our cash book as subs in then
into bank.
We have a £50 float which is in cash and you get reciepts to show its
spenditure and each month these are collected and the float made back to
£50.
Things might have to change though, the treasurer who took over from me
has resigned because of the workload and the problems of running the
system as it is. So all we need is someone with the right time,
experience and commitment, where have I heard that before?
It needs the GSL to be strong and encourage the leaders to hand this part of
things over.
The only bank account the troop has any control over is the summer camp
account. This has a separate log book where collections are shown and these
are paid into this account along with any donations etc. When bills are to
be paid the GSL and myself can sign the cheques to make the payments.
The other signatory is the treasurer and all statements go to her. The
reason the SL is not signatory is he is married to treasurer - he does
however hold the cheque book.
