Why are you any more likely to need a dump en-route on a multi-day
hike "stopping" at camp sites with full facilities than you are on a
day hike from a camp site without full kit?

No, you could need one at any time.

if you are staying on a site with no loo then you need GF anyway so the point is moot.

If you are on a scout site you may still need one two hours out and no where to "visit" in which case its best to know what to do.

This one is getting more and more ridiculous, and is tending towards a
Terrain 0 activity permit if it deals with anything other than the
actual *night* away.

I share your concern about creeping authorisation requirements but to be honest it is just like how to get safe water and dispose of waste, i.e. probably something kids on a hike ought to know.

It only really takes 30 minutes (if that) for one of us to find out and 10 minutes to teach a kid and its not like we are going to do a practical demonstration :-)

What I would like to see is a series of double sided summary cards included as part of nights away that held this sort of information then it wouldn't be problem, anybody could read it an know what to do.
