I don't think it works that way:
Girls are all just as different as boys are different, and there is a huge

I didn't start from the 'changing what I do' and 'giving-up things' for
girls.
I think it was about a basic beleive that it might just be different,
rewarding in new ways, possibly better.
I think we do play less 'rough games' , but i think games are fairer, more
inclusive for everyone. Not all boys want 'rough games'.
It is probably that games that were once won by brute force, are now won by
skill, speed, determination, and i find that hugely fun and rewarding for
me. We played a version of Dog and Bone last week, one from each side have
to snatch the 'bone' (a tied-upbag) before they are touched by the other
person. ( Bone is dead) So lots of posturing, bit of pushing, some faking,
dashing, rushing...
We played it 3-way and it was even better...

At the end of the day you have just got to let the girl thing happen, trust
me, you won't find you lose anything that isn't compensated by other stuff.

When i look back over the really important stuff, (for me) patrol leading,
patrol camps, really good hike camps, good canoe trips in all kinds of
weather, out in the cold and mud and rain and stuff, quality skill stuff;
knots & lashings, fire-lighting, tree climbing, map reading, getting lost in
the night, looking after one another.... I can't fault my girls one bit, not
once. Never had a girl give-up. And we had three girls in our team who won
the Dist competiton, in the rain. ( and how i hate football!)
So the odd really rough game might not seem quite so appropraite......

It would be like saying, "In our troop we all strip to the waist and
wrestle, or we all play in a brass band, or we only eat African food, so if
you don't like it don't join!" On the other hand, troops have broad
styles that might suit some more than others.

Just heard Beaver leader is not well, rushing of to run it... Not a happy
bunny.
Eddie

Eddie... I'm the one in my group pushing to get girls to join! All
literature has been gender neutral for a couple of years. Mums all
know that sisters can join... (and now they are!) And my theory is
that girls will join us because of all the cool stuff we do and our
stuff is dead cool...

Apart from the kayaking, we have done all your stuff in the past few
months. Night hikes, survival camps, Knots n lashings, map reading,
PLs on independent camps and then leading younger ones oh and yes. def
getting lost in the night. and all sorts...

as i said... am not sure what i'll have to change. I've adapted slowly
but my model is succesful... i'd be a fool to move too far from it at
all.
