Yes I would say that sounds reasonable. Depends on the relations
between the group and the unit. If they're friendly, I don't see why
an accommodation can't be made along the lines you suggest that's fair
to all.

Of course if the group decide otherwise - they keep the money -
there's probably not a lot one can do. The kids pay a subscription to
the group. That's group money. The onus to pay AMS is on the group.
All it has to do is find the amount of money required to cover each of
its members on the census at 31 Jan. Which group accounts it decides
to take that money from is down to the group (GEC). If members leave
the group then the group is no longer responsible for them.

Well to avoid the potential problems with the above method some groups
levy the AMS separately at the time it's due (i.e. now) They don't
lump it in with (group/section) subs. Okay so this means a bit of
extra work collecting money at this time of the year, but on the
accounts side it keeps them simple. (2 of my previous groups followed
this method.)

My first group and my current group avoid the problem all together!
(No they don't decide not to pay!) AMS levy for all members on the
group census is paid by the group from group funds. In both cases
these funds were built up over the year from fundraising. The kids do
not pay in anything either separately or through section subs towards
the AMS. No collecting. No late payments. No chasing around. No
accounts to sort out. Number members x £31.25 = cheque to district.

Which method(s) do I prefer? Pay separately at time or group pays from
funds raised from other means.

My least liked method is pay a proportion of AMS with (group/section)
subscriptions. Weekly's the worst, then monthly, then termly.

I have to say that we used to have a Group here who sent 2 bills ayear out
(each for £10) one was for the HQ rent the other was for AMS.

The YP then only paid weekly subs.

This is not an ideal way by any means but it did get the money in.

I know that POR used to have the wording that AMS was the responsibillity of
the parent and as such a few Groups used to charge it.

The good thing about this is that when a YP joins Explorers from a Group
they could still be charged it.

As I said before there should be discussion between people and Groups who
insist that AMS is collected as part of the weekly subs nedd really asking
to come to some arrangement - the problem being that many collect it in
arrears.

How many other clubs and organisations work in this way.
