We would urge those members who feel sufficiently strongly about the
Association's discriminatory stance to write to media organisations in
protest about it.
Seems I have chosen a right time to come back from the dead.
If the N.S.S. would like to look back to the thread 'Straw
Pole' ( should have been Poll) they will see that grass roots scouting
is also questioning the current policy and some of us have urged
changes along the lines the N.S.S. have proposed. However the case is
not helped by inaccurate statements. In the U.K. scouting does not
stop young people without a faith from joining, my duty as a leader is
to find a promise which they and their parents are comfortable with.
The discrimination comes in when adults whish to take out a leaders
warrent and are not allowed to unless the have a faith, this In my
opinion is unfair and I would like a secular option of the promise
introduced so that adults were judged on how much they helped young
people not on a if they fitted into a faith group or not.
That having been said, my priority is helping as many young people as
I can, nither the goverment, the N.S.S. or as far as I can tell Scout
H.Q. care a damn about the young people in my group who want to be
scouts but struggle to afford the activities and I am far to busy
fighting discrination against my scouts to write to the youth hating
media.
Yours Tony
