Hi

Does anyone have a different bank account for going on camp or do you use
your normal group account.

We used to have one, but the treasurer thought it wasn't a good
idea, so we scrapped it. The argument being all funds should go
through the group account.

The impact is that banking cheques for camps etc. becomes more
complicated as now it is done by the treasurer and not the
leaders. The number of transactions through the group account is
greatly increased.

Personally I think it better to have a separate account.

We have sectional accounts, and a Group account, and the Scouts also have a "camp" account, although we actually use it for all activities and camps.

The general Troop fund is for weekly membership fees, and weekly expenses, badges etc...

The Group fund is for leaders uniforms, training, hall hire, insurance and annual membership fees. The sections pay half of what they collect each week into the Group account, and retain the rest to spend on the programme. This is paid in at the end of each session.

The only money paid into the "camp account" is either fundraising that is specifically for an event, or fees charged for that event. It is by far our largest account, both in terms of turnover and number of transactions, and it makes it easier to pick out the non event based expenditure in the other account.

We were contemplating running a seperate account just for "Summer Camp", which this year is in Holland, but the treasurer decided that it would become a nightmare, and instead just keeps appropriate records for these transactions.

We also run a "camp bank" for the Scouts to pay in money in advance for events and activities, which means that we generally always have extra in the bank. This is generally stored in the "camp account", as that is where it will be used from. We keep strict records of how much each Scout has paid, and have never had a problem.
