I fear we'll have a damp squib - the district have decided to meet in
the middle of town at 7:45 for an 8am renewal and away at 8:15. Given
that most parents work and there is no 'carrot' to get the Scouts
there, plus getting to the town means paying for parking (I know -
only £1). So, what's the point?
I must be getting very cynical as this seems to be purely a publicity
stunt. If there is a Scout event that doesn't benefit the Scouts in
my troop or district I really can't see why I should bother to be
there.

There is nothing that says it has to be District or County organised.

IF you have got sufficient adults you could have one within your Group or
section. You could even suggest that they go it alone and provide proof as
we have done for those that will be on holiday.

I realise that not everyone will be available due to holidays and work etc.
If I was not on camp I would probably be at work too.

Luckily in our case we have some Leaders who are teacher, work in schools,
term time only workers and those who have sufficient flexible working
arrangements to allow them to take the Beavers, Cubs and Scouts who are not
away.

The Beavers are having a sleepover and are being met by parents, Cubs ans
Scouts who wish, they will renew the promise in the town centre then have
breakfast. They will then walk a mile to a local tourist attraction and do
another renwal then walk back to the road, be picked up by a vintage bus and
taken to another local park/tourist spot and renew again then a play in the
park before the vintage bus back to another park in the town for the final
renew, picnic lunch and games in the park.

This is a Group but mainly Beaver activity - no district involvement as if
it had been left to them there would probably be nothing.
