Actuall, this reminds me that I've to write a feature on local
Scouting for the local paper. I was blown away when they said yes, go
and do it - mind you, they are getting it for free.
Mine have printed the stuff I sent verbatim, no cridt mind you but
ALWAYS subsutute my photo from stock.
I had an interesting conversation with a sub editior about this and he
said they were not 300DPI, to which I replied they were 1600*1200, so
at 300DPI they would fill half a page. He said that was too big, he
wouldn't give me a target size and refused to resize them due to
pixelation.
He is talking bollox - if you image is too big and it gets reduced in
size it doesn't make a whole lot of difference, at least not in a
newspaper. Pixellation becomes a problem if you upsize.
If the press release has the information that they want, they will
change the title, the opening line and usually remove contact details
and print.
If your image is what they want, then they will usually print it.
See earlier thread about centring the image with lots of surrounding
space so that they can crop to size, or ensuring that your composition
is strong.
I suspect that he may be trying to be polite about your photography -
I haven't seen any so I couldn't judge. :-) ... But it sounds like a
get me out of this explanation that I have used in the past....
