Hi all

I am having a little bit of a debate with my BL at the moment about naming
of us leaders and lodges. He claims that historically the leaders were all
named after Jungle Book characters and had colour lodge names - I am under
the impression that it is actually only Cub Scouts who use Jungle Book but
am prepared to admit I am wrong if indeed I am (everything I have read on
various websites indicates that I am right)

Please let me know whether I am correct and also can anyone give me some
ideas what their own Beaver Colonies use for leader and lodge names. We are
considering the use of Wind in the Willows as our theme but wondered what
everyone else does.

Thanks

We have animal names for our leaders - Squirrel, Otter (me), Rabbit,
Mole and Fox.

Our lodges are Willow, Aspen, Birch and Cherry.

We use colours - Red Beaver, Yellow Beaver, Orange Beaver.... for the
warranted leaders & the YLs are known as Beaver <Christian name>.

I'm still known by my Beaver name at Cubs as it's a temporary
arrangement, but they still use Akela for the Grand Howl

There is no fixed naming rule - we can use our imagination.

Some colonies adopted the Friends of the Forest. At one time there was
talk of adopting Hiawatha (and LowerWatha?) in a similar fashion to the
Jungle Book. A lot of colonies named their BSL as Ameek.

Choose your own names.

We adopted Canadian trees - Pine, Redwood, Maple, Willow. The leader in
charge of each colony was respectively Blue Beaver, Red B, Yellow B,
Green B. I am Blue Beaver. Our Young Leader is Grey Beaver.

Another colony adopted our local aircraft - Beaver Lancaster, Beaver
Bomber, et al.

One bearded leader in another colony asked the Beavers to name him - he
is now a very happy Fungus!

So we still have complete freedom which has always been one of the
attractions of the Beaver Section.
