Hi
several of you have mentioned how successful your grant hunting is, and how
much it has benefited your groups.

As it is new territory, would you mind sharing your tips for finding grants?
We've never done this, and as a result we have:
a) lost lots of money which we could have used to benefit the kids
b) not got a clue where to begin
c) don't even know how to do the forms.

Not asking for actual grant people, just advice on how to begin, and where
to find out information on local grants and stuff.

thanks

1) Think PC. do you have immigrants, travellers, young offenders, kids
with special physical or educational needs, are you from a poor area
with loads of low income families?

2) Does your building serve other parts of the community OAPs are big
at the moment in grant world.

3) could you run an event that could receive special funding? Clean up
the beach? a grand to pay for equipment, lunch etc etc. A grant for a
nature day? with a visit from various people and activities. that sort
of thing?

If so... kerching. Grants tend to go to targetted areas. A body will
have a focus for a year and will give money to organisations in that
area.

Google loads. Look at past grants given. if there are scout groups in
there, you may be in luck.

Go to scoutbase and there is a long list of grant giving bodies on
thre. a good start.

If you are very keen... there is a book of grant giving bodies at the
central library. (it is huge and will take ages to wade through... it
might now be on CD... in fact i'm sure it is nd will therefore be more
easily searchable)

oh and make sure you do an awards4all one. definitley worth it.

replying to self...

learn to speak the language.

you need new tents to help your move to co-ed scouting. not becausxe
the old ones are a bit knackered

New equipment will facilitate access to residential experiences for
members with special needs. It will be easier to include them in all
the activities with more modern equipment. we will be able to camp
more frequently with new tents and the camps will cost less as they
will be far easier to transport.

or waffle like that sounds better than... we'd like new tents because
they pack small,
