grants, funds and how to find them

Hi
several of you have mentioned how successful your grant hunting is, and how
much it has benefited your groups.

As it is new territory, would you mind sharing your tips for finding grants?
We've never done this, and as a result we have:
a) lost lots of money which we could have used to benefit the kids
b) not got a clue where to begin
c) don't even know how to do the forms.

Not asking for actual grant people, just advice on how to begin, and where
to find out information on local grants and stuff.
