It depends on what you are doing with you own kit. If I was a climbing
instructor and used my own kit to teach scouts as the group do not want to
spend the money until they are certain that it is worth it; then as a one
off I may do it - if it gets regular I should expect some financial
compensation to help with the replacement costs (would be the same as
borrowing from county etc), but that is not the same as being paid for my
time.
I dissagree, as far as climbing kits goes it should be one thing or the
other.
If the instructor owns a lot of specialist climbing kit (as I do, and a
rack of friends does not come cheap) then by all means use it for the
benefit of Scouts, that is a choice many will choose to make.
I do not want my gear to be subsidised by Scouts, its then no longer my
gear to use as I choose when I climb for my own pleasure. And if the
gear is subsidised or bought by the Scouts I cant then use it when
climbing with non Scout mates (its in the Scout rules)
If the Scouts are using climbing gear on a regular basis, then they
should buy their own.
