Now ASL with 9th Sittingbourne, and trying to find out how many training
sessions I have to go on in order to prove my competence in thing's I've
done all my life . . . . .
Negative way of looking at things that. Think of all the new ideas you
can pinch and all the positive input you can have on the training of
others.
I've had a couple of adults come back to kayaking after many years'
away. They come in claiming they know how to paddle , did rivers and
all sorts and had their proficiency certificate carved in stone by
some ancient craftsman. They get in the boats and discover that they
either knew very little, or that they had forgotten an awful lot, or
that things have moved on considerably since they last carved a
dug-out from a tree trunk with fire and a bronze adze.
I've dealt with ex-Leaders who cannot understand why we can't use a
slipper on naughty boys, why we can't force feed them if they don't
like the food and so on.
It is less about assessing competence than it is about making sure
that we are up to speed on best practice, surely?
