Although the Constitution of WOSM clearly states that the Promise shouldSo it is better to stick to a set of outdated rules layed down 74
include a reference to God , six countries (Belgium, Czechoslovakia, France,
Luxembourg, The Netherlands and Finland) were granted the right in the
1920's to additionally use an alternative promise without a reference to
God. Two of these countries still offer this alternative promise (the
Netherlands and the Czech Republic), where others have abandoned it. WOSM
stated in 1932 that no new exceptions will be made and has expressed the
hope that the few remaining countries will stop using any promise lacking a
reference to God.
years ago, is better than changed to respond to today's more open,
accomadating and secular society? That is just naive and plain
ignorant! As I stated earlier, even the vicar of the group's church, a
representative of the sponsoring body, thinks that the SA are
practicing double standards!
To requote from my original mail:
When all is said and done, it will be the CHILDREN that the Scout
Association professes to SUPPORT, who will suffer WHEN MY CUB PACK
CLOSES DOWN BECAUSE THERE ARE NO WARRANTED LEADERS AVAILABLE TO KEEP IT
GOING!!
Our pack is in a CRITICAL situation and it would seem that the Scout
Association would rather see it close, than make changes to allow it to
survive!
