I know this may seem a tenuous link, however....

How many posters/ lurkers have any contact (as a representative of Scouting)
with their local authority or their local Community Volunteer Services team?

I am interested because the more stones you turn over, the more you uncover.
Every charity has a shortage of volunteers, some more so than others.
However, I have noticed that the local CVS has very little input from Scouts
or Guides.

I have joined Voluntary Action Network and get regular mailings on goings on
in the voluntary sector and have come to realise that we are so far out of
touch with many others in the sector that we are creating problems for
ourselves. Other charities meet regularly with each other through VAN and
the CVS and exchange ideas and become part of local development plans -
which by the way include the proposed future distribution of funding from
local government and other bodies. There is a web of networks and councils
being established and each is being drawn tighter and tighter as time
passes, and we are on the outside of those networks.

Now, if we were involved in these networks we could possibly find some way
of guiding consideration towards our needs, and I am not just talking about
funding, but also about resources such as voluntary accountants,
fundraisers, assistance with management at committee level and much more
besides.

We could find ourselves in a situation where all the volunteers are working
within this network, and those within the network will not recommend working
outside it. In which case our pool of potential leaders diminishes even
further.

Anyway, does anyone else work with their local Young Peoples' Service, VAN
or CVS? Does anyone have a local COMPACT they have signed up to?
