I tried running termly or monthly and they lost inteterest. Now it is
nightly. We have inspection at the beginning with points for uniform.
We give points out for winners in games, points for doing well in
activities, points for being first on parade, points off for being
last, pointrs off for talking on parade. It is a useful discipline
tool.
At the end of the night I divide total by number in the patrol and
winning patrol gets 20p or 30p depending on how generous i'm feeling,
then the 2nd patrol might get 20p or 10p
it is a small amount of money but it's generally paid straight into our
tuck shop and if the kid doesn't want sweets, he can keep the money.
(so we aren't making them have sweets.) If they take the piss that it
is only 10p then I take it back. They rareley take the piss. they are
too pleased to have won. And if I do take it back they are generally
pretty unhappy and apologise immediately. I imagine girls are the same
but we are single sex at the moment and the competitive streak in the
boys means that they will really try for something as silly as a 10p
piece.
