Public transport to London can be a nightmare with regards to cost.
I would suggest though that you talk to someone who knows what they are
talking about (and that doesn't always mean the person at the booking
office - certainly with the trains).
There are so many different fares on the trains depending on when you travel
and come back, there are also group bookings. One way some leaders have done
it in the past is to buy family railcards then add as many yp as poss to a
family group. The yp travel very cheap then.
