At least one Dutch boat builder was using Hella LED navigation lights two or
three years ago.
Going back a bit....
"What do you see if you check the lights from, say, a quarter mile away?
Any
variation in intensity with angle?
To be honest I haven't checked, I will next time I'm over there in the dark."
Finally checked, from approx a quarter mile the leds are brighter marginally than the
festoon filament bulb with little variation in intensity almost to
the edge. I haven't put an led in the tricolour yet as it's such a pain to drop the mast or climb it,
but all the other navs are led now. I'm very happy with the arrangement with the exception that
the current draw is so low that the panel light won't come on, but I can live with that.
