My club yacht, steel 45 ft yawl 'Syrenka' is in Orkneys before her return
journey to the Baltic.
She got serious weather when coming back from Greenland to Iceland earlier

Couple of times put on the side with spreaders in the seas, in 10°B
On top of that got trouble with engine, most probably due to algae growth
in the diesel tank.
As the engine refused to run in the seas, I assume the batteries got flat
and on-board electronics is failing to work.
I guess they moor in Stromness.

what a waste of resources - having to find then rescue her

To be fair the search was carried out and completed 4 hours before the
boat itself requested any assistance.

I think it's likely they wouldn't have actually called the rescue
service out for a tow, but since a suitable RNLI 'Tug' happened to be
on station why not take welcome a tow?

You can't stop someone coming to 'help' you if they really insist.

Some poor sods swimming off their boat in the Solent found this last
Sunday when some moron got India Juliet out for them! Even the bloke
in question making doubly clear on Ch16 that he was in no trouble of
any kind wasn't enough to stop the eager lifeboat.

Hopefully the Helicopter will be able to write it off against its
training mileage and the lifeboat got a good blast in a sunny Solent.
