By the time you've done enough sailing to make Ocean Passages you won't need to ask what sort of boat you need.
There's many a low-mileage sailor who's done the ARC and, whilst I wouldn't recommend a second-year flot skipper to consider it, a reasonably competent ICC skipper could handle it. 500 miles around the east coast over three months is probably worth 3,000 miles of Med sailing spread over two years. My opinion, of course..
Boat? The ARC organisers would soon recognise what is improbable.
I'd do the ARC myself but there's inadequate gin storage for that length of crossing. And the journey back. Need bunkering.
