My pet theory has always been that the big boat was changing course at the
time. Its easy to avoid a boat on a steady course in good visibility, but
at 5 knots against 25, with the 25 going you know not where, it isn't so
trivial. At least with this coming to court, we should eventually find out
what actually happened.

I'd go along with that and I'd also bet that the W Princessa Buoy had
something to do with it. I've been surprised a couple of times by ferries
ducking inside (as they should - it being a W cardinal).
