The purpose of a float is usually to mark the location of subsurface
objects, not necessarily to aid you in recovering the anchor. However, as
most divers know, positive buoyancy can aid in bringing the anchor up, or
repositioning it when needed.

It's always a good idea to mark your anchor's location, especially in
shallow water, or in areas that include swimmers or waders. That's why it's
a good idea to use a float.

Of course, by now this has probably been said 15 times over by other posts.
