Hi there,
I have been running for about 18 months now, and had an interesting
conversation with an ex-runner at my workplace. He says that if out running
below temperatures of about 10 degrees or so, you should always keep your
legs covered, because the blood doesn't circulate through the muscles
properly at low temperatures.
I wondered what the views of anybody in this group might be, and if this is
true, give a more technical explanation.

I've no idea - my one marathon was done in Holland in the snow and
then in temperatures that were reportedly as low as -5 - there was
certainly ice in my camelback by the end of it.

I did that in shorts - of the other slower people (I came 5th from
last) - I only saw a couple of other people, but at no point did I
feel I had cold legs or anything like that.

I've always run only in shorts, although I have contemplated tights,
I've never felt I needed them - but maybe I was wrong.

Cheers,

Jim.
