OOPS !! ;-)
Born in Ayrshire, currently resident in Dundee.
Only been in Ayrshire once. Spent 2 weeks @ Butlin's (Ayr), July
1976.
Was 12 years old. It rained for the entire
duration .... & when we finally braved it ... down to the beach , it was
a
mass of pebbles & rocks ! The highlight of the
entire holiday was dancing , kids disco, with a similar aged , lovely,
scottish lass .. to the record "Silly Love Songs ( Wings).
We were 4 years in New Zealand by '76. My childhood summer hols in
Scotland were generally spent at Tralee Bay just next to Oban. I
remember sun, sand and swimming... My Mum has a picture of me and
sisters playing on the beach at the mouth of the Clyde though, we are
dressed warmly. 'What's the white stuff on the beach Mum?' 'Oh, that's
just frozen foam from the sea'.
NZ friends who live in LA brought their two little ones for a xmas
visit couple of years ago, wanted to see snow. Took them for a walk
along the mouth of the Tay here, kiddies were most impressed by the
frozen foam. Mind you, it isn't anywhere near as wet over here in the
East as it is in the West. But it is at least as cold.
I would say it is colder in the East and definitely a lot windier (which
probably makes it seem colder).
