Did anyone who participated at the Silverstone !/2 Marathon today notice a
man in his late 50's early 60's running barefoot? Didnt seem to have any
problems either
Surely running barefoot can cause many problems otherwise we would be saving
a fortune on running shoes!
It used to be fairly common in cross-country , however I've never had
the nerve to try it.
Problem is all those long spikes flying around ready to rip your arch
open from toe to calcaneus. I once got spiked in the hand going over a
fence in a x-country championship race. Everyone, including me was
vaulting the fence, apart from the chap behind me who decided to put his
foot on top with my left hand as the meat in the sandwich. Fortunately
my watch took one of the spikes and prevented the 9mm needles completely
penetrating my hand. I still have a dimple between digits 3 & 4 though
the watch has been retired.
I took my hand to the St John's guy at the finish and he asked 'first
fence was it?' I affirmed and he replied 'we heard you scream down
here'.
