Hello there,
I've just come across WAVA and don't understand what the scores mean.
I entered:
10 mile, age 35, female, 1hr 17 mins -> compute
I get:
Congratulations! You scored a WAVA percentage of:: 64.13%
The WAVA baseline time for your age is: 49 mins 29 secs
Your time compares to a 25yr old runner running a: 1hr 17mins
What is the WAVA baseline?
What does "Your time compares to a 25yr old runner running a: 1hr
17mins" mean? It doesn't look like proper English to me. Does it mean
a 25 yo runner would be expected to run the same time over the same
distance? How come it's exactly the same time?
WAVA is a way of comparing athletic performance between athletes of
different ages.
If you look at the performance of enough athletes, you'll find that
performance doesn't significantly drop off for 10 milers until you're 36 if
you're a female, that's why you've been given the same time as a 25 yr old.
Interesting. I wonder why they don't take age 36 as lady vet. age.
I have another 7 months until the rot sets in then!
Yes, it does thanks. So the base line of 49mins is the world record for
Your percentage of 64.13 means that you ran 64% as well as a top runner of
your age bracket at that distance.
HTH
that time.
Quick! How do they calculate that my time is 64% as good? Is that
compared to all the figures they store, or some other method?
