its 2006 tommorrow not 1995, I see no reason why pdf's should crash any pc unless its a 166mhz . For the record I'm using a 300Mhz P2 and w98and have no problem . Clicking a link should pose no problem nowadays with massive hard drives and huge processors, any viral worries should already be taken care of and its frankly hard to believe anyone is on the net without anti virus - if they are then they deserve all they get .

The Windows 9x series suffered from poor management of memory and system resources. The processor speed isn't the issue, extra disk space doesn't help and additional memory is thought to make the problem worse. I tried opening the page with this computer running Windows 98SE and it didn't, in fact, crash the machine but it didn't open the document either, nor would it save to disk. I have another machine running Windows XP but without knowing what the link is about I can't really be bothered with the effort.

Unfortunately broadband tends to make the problem worse as people tend not to switch off their machines (freeing memory) until an application does it for them.

Anti virus software is at best marginally useful and itself takes up system resources - as does software firewalls and anti spyware software. In fact, anti virus software encourages people to become reliant on that rather than using proper security measures. One of my security measures is to connect to the internet on an old machine which doesn't hold important data. Another is to not to accept links from strangers.

I doubt that was the intention - a 333KLM
