Yikes! My first thought was "A runner who listens to his doctor!!" but then
it hit me that I couldn't recall anything about your accident.
Have I been too wrapped up in myself to notice your report or have you been

Haven't a clue. ;-) I think that we're all pretty much experiments of one.
What worked for someone else may or may not work for you. Hopefully, as long
as your legs are more or less the same length and pointed in pretty much the
same direction, you'll get back to where you were. Of course we can't turn
the clock back so don't be too disappointed if you do end up a bit slower.
Speed isn't everything.

The only bone I've ever broken is a finger so I think that rules me out. ;-)
