errrrr.. how does it know its spam

Because I told it how to recognize spam.
Some work from lists provided, but I prefer to set my own
standards of what gets through.

without downloading it first ?

It requests a list of messages waiting to be downloaded,
and displays that list.

Then it makes a choice based on one of two methods:
1. Mark for deletion anything matching my blacklist.
or
2. Mark for deletion anything not matching my whitelist.

It can filter by sender, sender Email, addressee or size.
I have the final say. I can manually add or remove anything
from the delete list.
It can also download and display any message header,
giving me more information before deciding whether to
delete the message n the server.

It then sends the delete messages to the server, one for
each Email to be deleted. I can retrieve the remaining
messages using my usual Email software.

Usually, I run it while downloading newsgroups. So, while
I look through the list, the connection is not sat idle.

Things are not as bad as they were a few years back. At
one time I was getting very large junk Emails, which took up
around 90% of the mailbox space. They would be a huge
waste of bandwidth and time, so deletion saved time and
bandwidth.

It has also been recommended to people when they have a
large Email blocking their mailbox, which they cannot
download for some reason. Rather like constipation, I guess.

of those scammers sounded just like that guy on Phonejacker.

i estimate that i have seen about 30 seconds of that programme
over the last 4 months.
i find it a grind on the eardrum.

If I was getting such calls, I would feel the same way. But I
find it funny, maybe because many of the calls are like real
scams. What is really funny is when idiots start giving details
or asking, "how much have I won?".

I cannot believe the number British of people still falling for
obvious scams. How can you win a competition you did not
enter, where do they think all that prize money comes from
if nobody pays to enter... the friggin Money Fairy?

Peter.
