Hello Mick,
The police use a system called Tetra. It is a very
powerful encryption system and to make things even harder they also use
spread spectrum transmition. So the simple answer is that for the
foreseeable future you're not going to be listening to Mr Plod. However
in some parts of the country one or two departments are still using the
old system but Im sure this will be fazed out.

BTW typing in capitals is the equivalent to shouting.

Good luck

Andy

*WRONG* If you know anything about the system you will know that it is
currently digital but NOT encrypted. (Go buy a Motorola HT800 and learn
how to program it.) The reason is the limitation of the network and the
Motorola radios are not good enough. The network can't cope at the moment
with what it was designed for - possibly bad planning or a case of a panic
to get the system working and then improving on it. The system can't be
used for data yet, or private calls between mobile users. It just manages
group calls with a limited number of users in each area. The phone side
of the radio uses the normal cellular network and can handle data.
Learn a bit more about the system and it's many problems!
He's asking in every single group about scanners.

Police use Nokia kit round here and all seems to work fine. But then your
utter bollocks has been shot down by someone else in the know anyhow.
