Methinks replacement looms.

Doesn't sound good.

I would like another CRT monitor as I find them better and easier
to
use with photographs - thay are just that much sharper, better
colour
and overall 'cleaner.'

Huh!

Certainly for colour balance and contrast you can't beat a CRT, but
I
switched to LCD about 4 years ago, and haven't regretted it. The
newest
ones have much better clarity and as for 'cleaner', I found LCD so
much
easier on the eyes.

Anyone know where any CRT monitors are still easily available
(yes, I
have Googled but to no real benefit?)

If you really want one, eBay is probably the best, or have a look on
the
CPC website. The LG Flatrons are quite good (I had one of those a
friend
passed on).

Failing that can anyone recommend my a very good 17" or 19" LCD?
It
doesn't need speed as I don't play games, just good resolution,
presumably a small pitch, and not costing the earth.

Depends on your budget really, I got a HP 20" widescreen off eBay
(brand
new though) for under £200, and I'm rather pleased with it. I know
it
isn't perfect for 'pro' photography, but it's good enough for most
needs, and certainly for amateur stuff. My old Formac 17" is
probably
slightly better at colours, but hasn't got such good contrast (that
was
over £400).

I also just got an Iiyama LCD for my daughter's PC, and that is
rather
good too - it was only £45 on eBay. Of course the usual caveats
apply
when using eBay.

It's also worth a look at www.ebuyer.com, they often have some
stunning
bargains.

I have to admit to having a bias towards Iiyama - this one (which I
was given for the letter of the month in Computer Active) has been
nothing short of superb. The softness is such that I can easily
convince myself that it is my glasses, but as the subject of most
pictures is in or near the middle it can be a bit off-putting.

Unfortunately eBuyer, whilst having some good offers, have a pretty
poor reputation in customer relations and especially in faults and
returns. CCL and CPC are rather better and I can collect from either
of them.
