I suspect that, in a voluntary / members club, there is nothing else that can be done, but I certainly think that a life time ban (for anything short of serious criminal acts) is wrong, there should be some sort of 'sunset' clause / period for all internal 'punishments'.

I suspect that point will be made by many in the debate on this motion, but I repeat the point I made earlier that a flaw like this is not necessarily fatal. The great thing about annual general meetings is that they happen every year, so a sunset clause can easily be added next year if desired. It may still make sense to people like yourself, Jerry, that see the rationale for this amendment, to vote for it this year despite its flaws and revisit it next year to remedy those defects. The questions to ask are: is it a step in the right direction? and are any defects 'liveable-with' for a year?

A far better approach is to throw it out and let the people who want it try next year.
One person's 'pain in the arse' is another's determined campaigner. Chamberlain considered Churchill a pain in the arse. Nixon considered the Watergate journalists a pain in the arse. Of course a whistle blower is considered a pain in the arse by those he is exposing, all the more reason to let the members decide, not the cabal at the centre of the allegations.
