Er no. URN is completely unable to keep out the trolls, purveyors of
filth and personal abusers. It's certainly had its fair share in the
past but I have to say that it's become a much better place than it
used to be - possibly because many contributors have now learnt to
ignore the trolls and spammers. Also, I'm pleased to say, there
doesn't seem to be nearly as much puerile point scoring between a
handful of individuals as there used to be even though some of the
guilty parties are still here.

The issue for me is that whilst URN is a good place to discuss
naturism is it really the right place to discuss issues which are
internal to BN? And is URN the obvious destination for people wanting
to discuss BN issues? I think not if for no other reason than I would
doubt that many members have even heard of Usenet let alone URN
whereas they will all be made aware of the new BN web site.

No I'm sure there's not but the point about a members' discussion
forum is that it provides the opportunity for members to raise issues,
ask questions, discuss policies etc within the boundaries of BN and
not via some sort of proxy such as URN. I can understand some members
of the EC not wishing to get involved in discussions on URN but there
could be no excuse for them not being involved in discussions on a
members' forum on BN's own web site.

Perhaps more importantly it demonstrates that the EC is willing to
engage directly with its members which, in my opinion, is something it
needs to do if it is ever to shake off its current image of secrecy.

It doesn't really matter how much traffic such a forum were to get (as
long as it wasn't completely moribund) - it's the perception of
openness that's important.
