Re: Sixty pounds Sir - and here's your three points

Using the patented Mavis Beacon "Hunt&Peck" Technique, Pip <gingerbloke@xxxxxxxxx> typed
Not me this time, but a mate of mine I saw in the pub last night. He
was somewhere West of the M25 on a small 'A' road when he came round a
corner and had to brake /hard/ to avoid tail-ending a queue of traffic.
He backed up smartly and applied hazard lights to obviate being taken
roughly himself, then once a queue had formed behind him, rolled up to
the end of the line in front. Jolly sensible - well, he is an ex-senior
copper and was sober for once ...

Anyway, the jam was caused by a large truck of the builders' merchant
persuasion which had been attempting to reverse onto a building site and
had coughed its lot when broadside on, so nobody was going anywhere for
a while. So, Mr Responsible places a call to the office to tell them
he's been delayed and that he'll advise an ETA when he can guess at one.

No sooner has he finished the call when there's a tap at the window. A
Hofficer of the Law, no less: "Using a telephonic device when driving,
Sir? You're nicked, you are".

Apparently it doesn't matter if you've been stationary with the engine
off for ten minutes. Apparently it doesn't matter if you're effectively
parked, and will be for the forseeable. Apparently, if you're sitting
in the driver's seat with the keys in the ignition and the phone in your
hand - you're nicked.

Reminiscent of the old 'Drunk In Charge' it seems. Deeply unpleasant.

Quite so. Personally I would fight that one. Hard.

go and talk to the Catholics.
