Try doing a conversion to get from MPG to AVI.

Free-est and does the most might be VirtualDub. Works with AVI files.
Can
cut, add, change brightness, sharpness, etc. Has a lot of plug-ins made

This camcorder records in .mod files & it wont see them.
Any ideas?
You can rename the extension from *.mod to *.mpg and then run from there
(make certain you unhide extensions in Windows File Explorer first or it may
keep the mod extension (got to DOS Command Prompt if needed). It should
play in Windows Media Player with the new extension. From *.mpg, you should
be able to find a converter to get it into *.avi and run VirtualDub. It's
easier to find mpg to avi freeware too. Mod is sort of odd format to deal
with.
Just for fun, try renaming the extension *.mod to *.avi and see what
happens. You could always go back (backup first!).
