Although not a Trekkie myself, I find the similarity between the name of
the actor portraying the young Kirk and that of the Captain in the pilot
episode (Christopher Pike(1)) uncannily similar.
I don't want to fuel your paranoia, but Cpt. Pike's in this one too.
To quoth the man himself, "Your father was in charge of a star ship for 12 minutes and saved 800 lives. I dare you to do better".
Hey, I did say that there were some cheesy lines.
