So they're putting me on a couple of days' worth of "monitoring" to see
if they can trace the problem. Sounds like pure bollocks to me, but
they've been good sorts previously, so I'm letting them have their
little go before I ratchet up the shouty.

It's a logical step for them to take. And at least they seem to have
accepted that the problem is theirs to solve, not yours.

I'm not so sure they have, I think they're trying to push it into "it's
a BT problem, so you go talk to them" space.

Which is a tricky one. Presumably it depends on exactly who is paying
whom, if anyone, to use the line between your house and the exchange
as an ADS line, on top of its existing use as a telephone line. The
answer may be *no-one*, in which case I imagine you may end up having
to sort it yourself.

Having said that, shortly after I joined IDNet I began to experience
intermittant loss of signal, for several minutes at a time. *Could be
your router*, said IDNet (on their freephone line), *have you a spare
one to try?*. *No*, says I. *Never mind*, says bod, *borrow one of
ours - I'll pop it in the post today*. Which he did. No improvement
from borrowed router, so IDNet got on to BT about the line. A week
later the problem stopped.

That's what I'm looking to Be* to do.

They've now got a "24 hour monitor" on the line for the next day, to see
what's what (if you believe it). I've also demanded a replacement
router, and we're still in "er ... we'd rather not" space for that,
which is daft because, as I told them, if it's *not* the router I'll
cheerfully return it to them. It's not like I'm going anywhere with it.

I'm also disappointed that I had to send a "sort this out in 48 hours or
I'm fucking off to someone else" type email in order to make any
progress - I pride myself on always being scrupulously polite and
undemanding when dealing with organisations, and I only resort to shouty
when everything else has failed. Which, in this case, is a shame.
