I'll try and give you as much info as I can.

Motherboard: ECS K7S5A, V1.0

Current Ram: 2 x 256mb SDRAM

Motherboard capable of up to 1GB of RAM, either in SDRAM or DDR (2
types of slots available). Cannot run system with mixed types of RAM.

I used the facility on dabs.com to ascertain the type of memory that
would be suitable for my motherboard, and chose 2 x 512mg, 184 pin
DIMM PC3200 DDR Ram, non-parity CL3.

I took out the SDRAM and installed the DDR, the system failed to boot
and only seemed to be seeking out the two CD slots without going any
further (ie, checking IDE and other boot systems). I've checked the
motherboard manual and all the settings in the BIOS are as per the
manual.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what may be the problem?

Yes, I know it's an old system now, but apart from running slow it
works fine, I just want to be able to run it a bit faster.

You have probably bought "high density" memory. 512MB high density sticks
won't work on a K7S5A. Why the *** are you using Dabs to identify the
right memory for your board? You should have used Crucial, who would
guarantee compatibility - £14.94 each for K7S5A compatible 512mb, sticks
with free postage.
