Understood, I was just confused why that was important in itself.

Actuall, above basic news reading requirements, it's the *only* thing I
find important.

Oh. That seems very strange to me ... like being a track rather than
train spotter so to speak. No worse than my interests in hardware over
OS's I guess. ;-)

Not sure if that's a good analogy or not :-/.

This is only effecting my choice of news reader, not an entire system.

I just ran the version of FA you have (ta), and that 'looks' very much
the same as V5, except V5 has better menu bar icons. Otherwise the
thread display is identical, a standard hierarchial indented thread
display. This is OK for short threads, but I find it harder to keep
track of where I'm at when they start getting multi-subthreaded.

Ok. Maybe it's because I don't look for or more importantly need said
*extras* that I'm content with what I am. For me being able to have
something function in a way I can easily use is more important than
anything I don't need that the package may not be able to do (like the
graphical view in a newsreader etc).

Ah well, you see, I thought that until I started using it, now it is
something I need as an essential function.

Ah, like Heroin you mean? <ducks>

You might just want to rethink that!

No, it's more like the favourite tool in your toolbox, that favourite
screwdriver, you know, that kind of thing?

OK, ignore MacSOUP even, having now tried Agent myself, I am pretty sure
I could quite easily move to almost *any* other news reader should
MacSOUP go belly up.

And that's Agent V5 (that I don't like because it's too complicated)
;-)

<groan>

Well it is! Well, probably more accurately 'it does stuff differently
(worse) and may do more stuff (I don't need and that get in my way)'.

Appearance wise it looks very similar.

Why does it have to default to a widescreen text display? (that's why I
like a seperate window system, I can quickly change each to suite the
needs of each message.

I spose. As you say I did actually manage to make all the Mac
newsreaders *work* as such it was just the bizarre way most of them
did so confused me so. When you are used to something that works in a
general way you are used to (as mentioned elsewhere, similar
look_and_feel) anything that works outside that may well be considered
'odd'. Maybe if I used any other app that used multiple windows or
panes (Photoshop?) I would feel less out of my comfort zone?

You'd be horrified at my dual screen set up when I'm editing the church
magazine then, I have Windows everywhere (from many different apps) ;-)

;-)

Well, I guess there are instances where such is handy (I do similar
with Windows Explorer and when I'm doing major file moves ... Win+E
twice (and about the only time I use keyboard shortcuts) then right
click the taskbar and 'Tile Windows Vertically').

Major files moves?
