We were somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the
drugs began to take hold. I remember Wicked Uncle Nigel
<wun@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> saying something like:
The vast majority thought that the speed limit on both single
carriageways and dual carriageways was 40. It's amazing they went fast
enough to get caught.
Which neatly explains the spreading plague of ignorant fuckwits
trundling along at 40MPH in an NSL at the head of a huge queue.
That's something I've noticed here in recent years.
When there's a queue of 40mph traffic I've sometimes found a UK-reg car
at the front of it. Poor dears are getting so paranoid about speed cams
they can't let go. Dawdling tourists are nothing new, of course, but
these incidents took place in non-touristy bits.
