It does this for all bought DVDs played in Windows Media Player or
Media Center.
Decoder issue. Buy AnyDVD, and never have to worry about DVD
regions, decoding, macrovision, unskipable intros, or error
messages like "Windows media player cannot play this DVD because
the analogue output on your graphics card cannot be encrypted."
When you add a blueray player, you can upgrade to the HD version
too.
Well, I was just about to do this, but I thought I'd try something
posted on TheGreenButton.com, which was to uninstall the driver and
let Windows get one from Windows Update. And guess what - that sorted
the problem perfectly.
Good ho. As long as your graphics cards HDMI out supports HDCP, and you
never want to play non region 2 DVDs, anyway.
Anyway - my new box is very nearly complete, and I must admit to
feeling really jolly smug about it. The last remaining task is to
sort out some digital sound output - the mobo had a digital output
header on it, but the case has nothing for it to connect to. I assume
I need something like this

Maybe. If you have a surround sound / AV receiver/amp system at home or
you ever intend to, then you might want to check the spec of the
digital out on the board. Almost none of them support 24bit @ 96kHz,
which is what you need for proper surround sound. Even some of the ones
that do don't have driver support for things like AC-3/DTS
pass-through, which is also necessary for proper surround sound.
I have one of these:
http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/sep03/articles/maudioaphile.htm
which are no longer made. But as you've got a full size case, you can
probably fit a proper sound card in if you have to.
The things to look out for are 24bit @ 96kHz, with DTS &
AC-pass-through. Also ASIO support would be your best bet for decent
sound:
