Threads that you start are not all about you.

I know and what's more I really don't understand why (on what I

so?

Because it was part of the point I was trying to make?

When you say stuff like "your first utterings to me" you need to bear in
mind that since I have been sitting here reading every word you have
posted for the last couple of months I already feel like I'm part of the
discussion.

There used to be a disclaimer that posting
software would bring up that read something like "This program posts
news to thousands of machines throughout the world" and the point is
that hundreds of people are taking the time to read every post you
write. It's worthwhile bearing this in mind.

Well, I guess, assuming your assumption is true and I don't believe it
is (certainly not intentionally anyway)?

I am not sure what you mean. But the proportion of lurkers to posters on
Usenet is typically worse than 10%. And there are hundreds of readers of
this group. So work it out yourself.

Ok, there's one for you then. I ask a question and 5 people reply over
a period with differing suggestions and further questions. How do I
explore / expand each without answering them individually? I thought
it was a discussion group but it seems it's just a clubhouse for the
clique.

I'm afraid the answer is, please don't explore/expand every point down
to the Nth degree. I've noticed some threads that you've been involved
in have ended up being devolving into a fractal-like examination of
every tiny nuance to the point where I'm tired of the whole thing.

And how is what I do any more notable than the other people who post
complete bollocks that means little to any outsider? Still going to
and being read on thousands of machines presumably?

Yes, other people post bollocks to. But probably what we should be
striving for is to be pithy and amusing.

I'm meaning to be helpful here, not petty, by the way.
