The transalp (57 reg 650, pre-reg'd in september 07, sold end of december)
is due it's first service soon, the 6k mile or 6 months one, odo is at
less than 3k miles, but 6 motnsh from sale dats is due.

There's no way i'm taking it to the honda dealer in nottingham, i could go
to derby or sommat, but would prefer an independant, i only really need
the stamp in the book for the warrenty, or i'd service it me self,

Will a stamp from an independant be valid as far as the warranty's
concerned?

Contrary to popular belief, you don't have to have an official dealer's
stamped-up book for a warranty to be valid.

Sale of Goods Act overrides.

Classic example - you've maintained it yourself, changed oil, done all
the necessary, and the seat cover just disintegrates, or a frame member
snaps, or something like that. It's totally unrelated to the service
schedule.

I had an interesting time, a few years ago, calling all the major
manufacturers and putting this sort of question to them, and after
initially getting the "it must be serviced by our network to keep the
warranty valid" I got a twisting and a squiriming and, from every one,
an admission that in this sort of case, it wasn't necessary.

And one or two even said that if an owner DIY'd, and kept receipts for
all components bought, and adhered to the schedule, that'd be good
enough for them.
