Think yourself lucky, Diesel hiked to 1.21 / l here a few days ago.

But you get 65mpg, so doing better than most petrol cars with 30mpg,
on average.

Not sure it's worth it. My old MK2 Golf does 35mpg with me thrashing it. My new (to me) 406 HDI should do about 45mpg. On about 10000 miles a year it makes about £250 - £300 difference. Granted if you're doing 20 or 30k a year it adds up, but I wouldn't bother swapping if I the MK2 were suitable for long distance work / parking in *** places.
