Re: OT: Linux questions

Ok, got this linux box (Daryna) up and running to replace a w98
installation. It's looking pretty good and stable. I have this newsreader
(hence the crisps post the other day), Thunderbird for mail, Firefox
browser, aMSN, my printer works and as of yesterday so does my flatbed
scanner.

But the network. Oh, the network. This machine can't see anything else on
the network and nothing can see it. However, it can print to a printer on
my XP box (although it can't see the server - I had to type in the
address). I installed SSH on here and WinSCP on the XP box and now I can
copy files a bit at a time from this machine to the XP box.

It's ***. How do I make this machine behave and appear on the network
just like the xp and 98 machines? Surely TCP/IP is TCP/IP?

Yes, but they're not looking via TCP/IP directly.

Sir may want to discover the fun that is a Samba installation.
