I was wondering if 8GB of memory is excessive or does everyone fill em up these days. I must admit it runs very well on it.

Sounds fine, assuming it's not being wasted on 32-bit Windows.

I tend not to waste anything on proprietary operating systems. Well I get a company laptop. Solaris and Linux are free. All our reports at work are written in Open Office because nobody can be bothered to buy MS office for the PC's connected to the OSS LAN. And you get two 19" flat screens with them.

That sounds nice than my office. Windows everything. Three different "snooping" software to ensure we don't install/execute or visit anything. I have a reasonable spec Core-Duo machine that takes about 5 mins to boot because of all the stuff.
