Not unusual if the master cylinder is sticky, but it's should hapen.

It can and does quite often happen with slave cylinders as there is often
a spring inside them, so it's not only fluid pressure which makes them pop
out on their own.
Ask me how I know this? Just try finding a spring you didn't know existed
when the piston popped out overnight on its own accord and went 'walkies'
down the back of the bench. Piston was still there in a pool of fluid but
no spring. Hassles then setting up the clutch without drag was
'troublesome'. This caused me to finally admit defeat and RTFbmwM, which
obviously showed said spring and described its function.

I hate feral springs.
