OT: result at auction - smug git warning

Our CD deck died before Christmas and so I was just getting used to the idea of forking out #145 for a new Denon one. Went to an auction yesterday for some other stuff and there was a Denon DCD-485 bundled with two other things. When I got the lot home it urns out to be:
CD as above
Sony MDS-W1 double MiniDisc deck
Yamaha KX-393 cassette deck
Then in a polythene bag I find
20 MiniDiscs full of music I don't like
Sony Walkman MZ-E10 MiniDisc player
Never used (or even seen) a MiniDisc deck before but I've had a play and I'm well impressed. Why didn't they catch on more - much better than the portable CD players that did. [1]
Anyway, I did some googling and it appears that all three of the components were highly rated in their day by people like What HiFi?.
Also turns out that the new price of that lot added together was a little over 800 pounds.
I paid twelve quid for the whole lot so I am a very happy and somewhat smug bunny today.
That's all.
Derek
[1] Yes I know mp3 players have now out-miniaturised them but they use a lot more compression and introduce artefacts.
